Six sweet-tasting compounds have been reported in the leaves of S. rebaudiana – Stevioside, Rebaudiosides A, D and E, Dulcosides A and B. Stevioside is a glycoside with a glucosyl and sophorosyl residue attached to the aglycon steviol, which have 250–300 times the sweetness of sugar.

Stevia possess anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties in addition to its other versatile uses. It can be safely used in daily usage products such as mouthwashes and toothpastes.
